Kentucky & Indiana Terminal Bridge over Ohio River

The Norfolk Southern Railway-owned K&I Bridge, which crosses over the Ohio River, recently completed rehab work involving the structure’s bearings.

The outdated pivot-style bearings were replaced with the latest technology in RJ Watson Disktron Bearings. The Unidirectional Bearings were also guided and designed to handle up to five inches of longitudinal movement.

The 6000-foot long structure was built in 1912 and was one of the first multi-modal bridges to cross the Ohio River, carrying both railway and roadway vehicles. Today it is currently used as a railway-only bridge and connects the cities of Louisville, KY and New Albany, IN.
