The rapid curing polyurea waterproofing membrane will protect the concrete bridge from the corrosive effects of moisture and salts, and prolong the life of the underlying steel reinforcement. It is not always necessary, but to protect the membrane, an asphalt protection board was installed over the top of the waterproofing membrane prior to the installation of the railroad track ballast.
The goal of the $13.8 Million project titled, “The Elm Street Grade Separation” was to eliminate the Grade Crossing by excavating Elm St. below the grade of the crossing and install a new bridge in order to ease traffic congestion, and potential accidents in that location. The entire project should be completed by November, 2019. The consulting engineer for this project was American Structurepoint (Columbus, OH).
